WILL GEORGE MAKE A COMEBACK?

Will George make a comeback? George? You know which George I am referring to! The man on my mind is George Walker Bush, the 43rd President of the United States. Would you count him out? Well, I wouldn't. I am telling you right now that George has a lot of life left in him.
Many may disagree but in seeking to defend an obviously unpopular position, I can only ask for honest reflection on the events leading up to 9/11. Mr. Bush had won the Presidency under dubious circumstances that did much to rip the country apart but also very importantly, one cannot forget the scandalous events of the Clinton Government, his impeachment and the near collapse of the Administration leading up to the elections. Many can look back at this time and recall that it was an extremely difficult period for America.
From the very first day George Bush won the Presidency, debaters and detractors have been at the Podium discussing and airing their biased prognostications on how history would reflect on the “man”. The naysayers have not only been vocal; but at times, downright vicious.

The debates I can tolerate, but the visciousness that is sometimes plain disrespect for the President and the Office which he holds, I find difficult to comprehend. We can argue about acumen forever but I remain steadfast: Unless this is the greatest hoax in history, no ordinary soul could rise through the layers and layers of American politics to the Presidency of the United States…the greatest seat of power man has known, without being exposed much earlier on.
Leadership is a process and I believe greatness comes from the effectiveness of the response to crisis. For George Bush and the Republican Administration that moment of crisis came on 9/11 when hate-filled terrorists “broke” into America’s “backyard”, took out the "pillars of capitalism" and in the process killed thousands of innocent lives. It was a heinous act unparalleled on American soil. Across the globe empathy for America peaked and everyone waited for the response.
Then, on that faithful day, while on a tour of “Ground Zero”, Mr. Bush…the 43rd President of the United States, arms around a New York City Firefighter and bullhorn in hand, spoke to the world. It was a rallying cry… a battle cry, like no other. To this day, his words remain emblazoned in my memory and in the weeks and months to follow, the naysayers were quiet. In fact, the sentiments about the “man” had taken a drastic turn: Possibly…just possibly, we could be looking at the greatest President in American History.

Since then, a lot has changed. Ratings have plummeted. The Taliban and Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan were “steamrolled” but all of a sudden they are back in the news. Iraq was defeated and Saddam captured but somehow an undefined battle rages on. North Korea has tested “the bomb” and the President of Iran is writing “love letters” to the United States.
There was the disgrace of Hurricane Katrina and we have also seen and despised a return to the ugly scandals. In the most recent elections, the Republicans lost control of the House and the Senate. All of this with a standing “lame duck” Presidency. It's the unmistakable feeling of déjà vu: The naysayers have regained confidence and are back out in numbers. They claim the opportunity has been lost…America's goodwill around the world has been extinguished...this President has committed the greatest mistake in the history of the United States…blah, blah, blah.
I have only one thing to say to them: Don’t count George out. He has almost two years left in the Presidency…this is a lot of time…and keep in mind…in the very forefront…that people who hate America and are in a hurry to hasten its downfall are plotting and scheming and determined to awaken the “man”…the greatness the world experienced on that faithful day at Ground Zero…determined to summon a second coming of George Walker Bush. George being a religious man with strong beliefs, will definitely know a thing or two about "Second Comings"!
